The Shape and Color of The Bottle of Wine

A wine bottle is a bottle used for holding wine, which is usually made of glass. Some wines are fermented in the bottle, while others are bottled only after fermentation. They come in a large variety of sizes, from 0.187 L to 25 L. The bottle of wine also comes in many shapes and colors as well.

The different types are :

Bottle of Wine Shapes

  • Straight-sided and high-shouldered with a pronounced punt
  • Tall bottles with sloping shoulders and a smaller punt
  • Narrow and tall with little or no punt
  • Thick-walled and wide with a pronounced punt and sloping shoulders

    Bottle of Wine Colors

  • Bordeaux : dark green for reds, light green for dry whites, clear for sweet whites
  • Burgundy and the Rhone: dark green
  • Mosel and Alsace: dark to medium green, although some producers have traditionally used brown
  • Rhine : brown, although some producers have traditionally used green

Clear bottles have recently become popular with white wine producers in many countries as well.

Bottle of Wine and It's Uses

Wine is a popular and important beverage that is associated with and enhances a wide variety of European and Mediterranean-style cuisines, from the simplest and traditional to the most sophisticated and complex designer foods

Wine is also used in religious ceremonies in many cultures and the bottle of wine trade is of historical importance for many regions. The New Testament even states that Jesus' very first miracle was turning water to wine, and the Old Testament states that the fermentation of grapes was first manifested by Noah after the great flood described in book of Genesis. Wine remains an essential part of many denominations of Christianity today.

Red wine, white wine and sparkling wines are the most prominent bottle of wines. They are also known as light bottles of wine, because they contain low alcohol levels. Although there are many classes of dinner wines, they can be categorized under six specific classes as follows:

    • Appetizer Wines
    • Red Dinner Wines
    • White Dinner Wines
    • Sparkling Wines
    • Table Wines
    • Dessert Wines
    • Cooking Wines

What It Means By Purifying A Bottle of Wine

The labels on certain bottles of wine recommend that they need to be set aside for an hour before consuming, to allow 'breathing', while other bottles of wines recommend consuming as soon as they are opened.

'Breathing' simply means allowing a bottle of wine to purify before consuming. Predominantly , only the younger wines benefit from some purification. "Younger", meaning the first one third of a wine's cycle, which varies from each bottle of wine. For most of the white wines, "younger" means up to one to two years, while for red wines, it could be as few as months. Buy your bottle of wine today from French Wine Online.
