Home Landscape Design And Planning
As part of my personal continued landscaping study, I make it a point to stop by yards and gardens designed by do it yourselfers and homeowners. There are usually a lot of individual touches to every garden that differ in creativity, style, and budget. Of course, the prime determining factor that I have seen between fantastic home landscaping ideas and not so great is how much preperation goes into each landscape or yard.
It's understandable that the planning process and getting a vision can be frustrating and hard for rookie landscapers. However, no matter how lengthy it is, do not skip this phase. It is crucial to the final effectiveness, functionality, appearance, and constant growth of your landscaping. Make the time to plan. Keep the following tips in mind. They can be handy for getting your vision and ideas on paper and finally to your yard.
When you start your design process it may be helpful to focus on the abstract instead of specifics. Many professional landscapers design this way. Instead of being stuck on individual plants or flowers to grow in your landscaping plans, think of the shape, size, texture, color, and purpose of the plants and flowers you need in different areas. Specific plant types can be researched and picked out after the plan is complete.
Don't focus too much on all the aspects of the landscaping plan. Focus instead on accessibility, shape, purpose, etc. As opposed to thinking in terms of specific items needed for decks, walls, walkways, patios, fences, and other hardscapes, think about the convenience, access, shape, size, function, and need.
Try drawing or copying your ideal landscape into your space as if you have a smooth clean dirt area to start off with. Look through landscaping photos and use a whole design in your yard if you want to. Convert it, adjust it, or try something else. The idea is to design without limitation and then seee if it can be revised to make it work with what is already there.
A frequent planning block is not being able to look beyond what's already there. While it's a good idea to integrate existing views and elements that are attractive, your landscaping ideas shouldn't be confined by a lot more than space, budget, and imagination. It is sometimes beneficial to look beyond what's already existing and proceed with a blank plan in mind.
A final tip is to keep it simplistic by keeping elements to a minimum and then then repeating them. You could also try making a focus in all the main areas. This might simply be a entry door or gate, flower bed, or even a statue. Keep focal points to one since too many will compete for focus and confuse the view.
