Finding the right
wine on first dates can be very worrisome in itself
because of course you want to impress your new friend but by
no means will you be able to come across as a wine
connoisseur!
How much wine should I
get you ask?
One
bottle of wine is a defined amount, normally about five
glasses and if shared is unlikely to make you will fall off
your chair drunk, that is one of the great things about wine
on a date!
There are other concerns if your not
careful with choosing wine
on a first date . First, you need to decide whether you
want white, red, rosé or sparkling wine . A
general rule is that red wines are more of an acquired taste,
so if you do not know that your date likes red
wine it is a good idea to pass on red wines.
Sparkling
wine can be a nice to make it a joyous occasion yet
sometimes this can also look a little forward or if you go for
a cheap sparkling wine it can make you look cheap as well.
To combat any unknowns it is normally recommended to
choose a nice rosé wine because it doesn't come across wrong,
doesn't have sharp tasting characteristic like many red wines
and can also be somewhat sweet to help make things go well.
White
wines are also nice and are almost always perfectly
drinkable yet you need to watch out for that date that may not
drink at all, so have a backup just in case.
Do you
want to impress them?
Instead of trying to say some
wine name that you have never heard of before and probably
would end up saying awkwardly to try and impress your date.
Keep away from hard to pronounce wines and stay with something
you have a handle on and it will make you come across much
more distinguished.
Most people will tell you that
they would much rather find someone that they feel is in
control of a situation and has a take control type of
attitude. ( even if you don't feel you do! )
So making
a wine choice before hand that you can pronounce easily
and that will be suiting to both of your tastes will impress
them much more and should also help in the long run.
